Passage 1 — Walking: The Simplest Exercise
Many people think that staying fit requires expensive gym memberships, special clothes, or complicated training programmes. In fact, one of the best forms of exercise is also the simplest and cheapest: walking. Walking needs no equipment, can be done almost anywhere, and is suitable for people of all ages, from young children to grandparents. Yet in modern cities, where motorbikes and cars are everywhere, many people walk less than they did in the past, and their health suffers as a result.
Doctors explain that regular walking brings clear benefits for the body. Brisk walking, which means walking fast enough to breathe a little harder but still be able to talk, strengthens the heart and improves blood circulation. It also helps people control their weight, because the body burns energy while walking, and it can lower the risk of serious diseases such as diabetes and heart problems. People who walk for about thirty minutes a day often have more energy and feel less tired than those who sit all day.
Walking is also good for the mind. When people walk outdoors, especially in a park or near trees, they often feel calmer and less stressed. Studies show that a short walk can improve mood and help people think more clearly. For students, walking before studying may help concentration, and for office workers, a walk during lunch break can refresh the mind for the afternoon. Unlike intense sports, walking rarely causes injuries, so people can enjoy it safely every day.
Another advantage of walking is social. Walking with family members, friends, or neighbours gives people time to talk, share news, and support each other. In many neighbourhoods, morning walking groups have become popular: older people meet early, walk together, and then drink tea and chat. Walking is also friendly to the environment, because every short trip made on foot is one less trip by motorbike or car, which means less air pollution and less traffic.
Of course, walking alone cannot solve every health problem, and people with serious health conditions should ask a doctor for advice first. However, for most healthy people, walking is an excellent starting point. Experts suggest building walking into daily routines: walk to school or work when possible, use the stairs instead of the lift, or take an evening walk after dinner. Small changes, repeated every day, can lead to a stronger body, a calmer mind, and a happier life.
For people who find thirty minutes difficult at first, experts suggest splitting the walk into three ten-minute walks: one in the morning, one at lunch, and one in the evening. This approach is easier to fit into a busy schedule, and the health benefits are similar. The key is regularity, not speed or distance, so even a gentle daily walk is far better than no walk at all.

Passage 2 — Community Gardens Bring Neighbours Together
In many crowded cities, people live close to each other but rarely talk to their neighbours. They come home, close the door, and spend the evening alone with their phones or televisions. Community gardens are changing this pattern. A community garden is a shared piece of land, often in an empty corner of a neighbourhood, where local residents grow vegetables, herbs, and flowers together. Each family may look after a small plot, while everyone shares tools, water, and advice.
The first benefit of a community garden is fresh food. Vegetables picked in the morning and cooked the same day taste better and keep more vitamins than vegetables that travel long distances to a market. For families with low incomes, growing their own food also saves money. In addition, gardening is gentle exercise: digging, watering, and carrying baskets keep the body active without the pressure of a gym.
The social benefits may be even more important. In a community garden, people of different ages and backgrounds work side by side. Older residents teach young people how to plant seeds and care for soil, while children learn patience as they wait for plants to grow. Neighbours who once only nodded hello now share meals made from the garden's harvest and celebrate festivals together. Researchers have found that people who take part in community projects often feel less lonely and more connected to the place where they live.
Community gardens also help children learn about nature and healthy eating. Many children think vegetables come from supermarkets, but in a garden they see the whole process: seeds, soil, water, sunlight, and finally food on the table. When children grow their own tomatoes or herbs, they are often more willing to try new foods, including vegetables they refused at home. Teachers sometimes use school gardens to explain science lessons in a practical way.
Running a community garden is not always easy. Members must agree on rules, such as who waters the plants on holidays and how the harvest is shared fairly. If nobody takes responsibility, weeds grow and plants die. Gardens also need a reliable water supply and protection from pests. However, most successful gardens solve these problems by dividing tasks, holding regular meetings, and welcoming new members. When people feel that the garden belongs to everyone, they take better care of it.
In conclusion, community gardens offer much more than fresh vegetables. They turn empty land into green, lively spaces, help families eat better, and, most importantly, turn strangers into neighbours and neighbours into friends. In a fast-moving world, that sense of community may be the garden's most valuable harvest.
Many cities now support this idea by offering empty land, water, and basic training to new garden groups. Local authorities have realised that a small garden can improve a whole neighbourhood: it reduces waste when food scraps become compost, it gives young people a safe outdoor activity, and it creates a green meeting place that everyone can enjoy. With a little support, one small garden can inspire several more nearby.

Passage 3 — Why Home Cooking Is Coming Back
For many years, fast food and ready-made meals became more and more popular, especially in busy cities. After a long day at work or school, it seemed easier to order a pizza or buy fried chicken than to cook. However, in recent years, home cooking has started to come back, and many young people are discovering that cooking at home can be enjoyable, healthy, and surprisingly affordable.
The clearest advantage of home cooking is control over ingredients. When you cook yourself, you decide how much salt, sugar, and oil to use, and you can choose fresh vegetables, lean meat, and whole grains. Restaurant and fast food, by contrast, often contain large amounts of salt, sugar, and unhealthy fat, and portions are usually bigger than necessary. Studies show that people who cook at home most days tend to eat more vegetables and fewer processed foods, which helps them stay at a healthy weight.
Home cooking also saves money. A home-made meal for a family of four often costs much less than the same meal in a restaurant, and leftovers can be used for lunch the next day. For students living away from home, learning a few simple dishes, such as vegetable soup, fried rice, or omelettes, can greatly reduce food costs. In addition, cooking in larger amounts and sharing with friends is both cheaper and more fun.
Another reason for the return of home cooking is family life. In many families, cooking together has become a way to spend quality time. Parents teach children how to wash vegetables, measure rice, and follow a simple recipe, while children learn useful life skills and patience. Sitting down to eat a home-cooked meal together, without phones or television, gives family members a chance to talk about their day and support each other.
Of course, home cooking takes time and practice. Beginners may burn food, forget ingredients, or feel tired after cooking. Busy workers may not have an hour to prepare dinner every evening. The solution, experts say, is to start small: cook two or three times a week, prepare ingredients in advance, and keep a list of five easy dishes that can be made in thirty minutes. Online videos and simple cookbooks now make learning to cook much easier than before.
In short, home cooking is not old-fashioned. It is a practical skill that protects health, saves money, and brings people together around the table. As more people realise these benefits, the kitchen is once again becoming the heart of the home.
Planning meals for the week can make home cooking even easier. When families decide their dishes in advance and buy ingredients together, they waste less food and avoid the daily question of what to cook. Some families keep a small notebook of favourite recipes, so even a tired parent can prepare a familiar dish quickly. Over time, these simple habits turn cooking from a stressful chore into a relaxing and creative part of everyday life.
Q21. What is the main idea of the passage?
Q22. According to the passage, why did fast food become popular?
Q23. What is the clearest advantage of home cooking?
Q24. What does the word 'processed' most likely mean?
Q25. According to the passage, how can students save on food costs?
Học vài món đơn giản có thể giảm đáng kể chi phí ăn uống cho sinh viên.
Q26. What do parents teach children when cooking together?
Cha mẹ dạy trẻ rửa rau, đong gạo và làm theo công thức đơn giản.
Q27. What problem do beginners face in home cooking?
Q28. What solution do experts suggest for busy workers?
Chuyên gia khuyên bắt đầu nhỏ: nấu 2–3 lần/tuần và giữ danh sách 5 món dễ.
Q29. What can be inferred about eating together without phones or television?
Q30. What is the author's attitude towards home cooking?
Passage 4 — How Vietnamese Families Stay Healthy Together
In Vietnam, family plays a central role in daily life, and this closeness can be a powerful support for good health. Unlike in some countries where people live far from their relatives, many Vietnamese families live near each other, share meals, and look after older members. These habits, often taken for granted, help family members stay healthy in both body and mind.
Food is one clear example. Vietnamese family meals usually include rice, soup, several vegetable dishes, and a small amount of meat or fish, shared from common plates in the middle of the table. This style of eating naturally encourages people to eat more vegetables and to eat slowly while talking. Grandparents often remind younger members to eat green vegetables, drink enough water, and avoid too many sweet drinks. Although young people today enjoy bubble tea and fast food, family meals still provide a healthy balance for many of them.
Physical activity is also often a family activity. In the early morning, it is common to see grandparents, parents, and children walking or doing gentle exercise together in parks. At weekends, families may ride bicycles, visit a relative in the countryside, or work together in a small garden. These activities are not intense training, but they keep everyone moving and give family members time to enjoy each other's company.
Family support is especially important for mental health. When a student feels stressed before an exam or a worker faces problems at work, talking with parents or siblings can reduce worry and provide practical advice. In Vietnamese culture, older family members are respected for their experience, and younger members often feel safe sharing problems with them. Studies in many countries show that people with strong family bonds recover from stress more quickly and feel less lonely.
However, modern life brings new challenges. Long working hours, heavy schoolwork, and the constant use of phones mean that some families spend less time together than before. Meals become rushed, and family members may sit in the same room but look at different screens. Experts advise families to protect at least one shared meal a day and one shared activity at the weekend, and to keep phones away during meals.
In conclusion, Vietnamese families already have many healthy traditions: balanced shared meals, gentle exercise together, and strong emotional support. By protecting these traditions in a busy modern life, families can help every member, from young children to grandparents, live a healthier and happier life.
Schools and workplaces can support families in this effort. When schools serve balanced lunches and limit sugary drinks, children learn healthy choices outside the home as well. When employers allow flexible hours or organise weekend sports activities, parents have more time to cook and exercise with their children. Health, therefore, is not only a private family matter; it grows stronger when the whole community values and supports it.

Q32. According to the passage, what do Vietnamese family meals usually include?
Q33. How does shared eating encourage healthy habits?
Q34. What does the word 'bond' (in 'family bonds') most likely mean?
Family bonds nghĩa là sự gắn bó, mối liên kết thân thiết giữa các thành viên.
Q35. According to the passage, what physical activities do families do together?
Các gia đình cùng đi bộ, tập nhẹ, đạp xe và làm vườn.
Q36. Why is family support important for mental health?
Trò chuyện với cha mẹ, anh chị em giúp giảm lo lắng và nhận lời khuyên thiết thực.
Q37. What challenge does modern life bring, according to the passage?
Giờ làm việc dài, bài vở nặng và điện thoại khiến gia đình ít thời gian bên nhau hơn.
Q38. What do experts advise families to protect?
Q39. What can be inferred about grandparents' role?
Ông bà nhắc nhở con cháu ăn rau và được tôn trọng vì kinh nghiệm.
Q40. What is the author's conclusion?

Nowadays, many young people have unhealthy habits, such as eating fast food, staying up late, and spending too much time on phones. Some people believe schools should teach students how to live healthily, while others think this is the family's job. In my opinion, both schools and families have an important role to play.
On the one hand, schools can teach health in a systematic way. Teachers can explain the benefits of balanced diets, regular exercise, and enough sleep, and students can practise these ideas through physical education, school meals, and health projects. Schools also reach all children, including those whose parents are too busy to teach them. For example, a short weekly lesson on nutrition, combined with healthy school meals, can change what children choose to eat. Therefore, school education can give every student basic knowledge about healthy living.
On the other hand, families influence children's daily habits more directly. Parents decide what food to buy, when children go to bed, and how much screen time is allowed. Children often copy their parents, so if parents exercise regularly and eat vegetables, children are more likely to do the same. Without family support, lessons at school may be forgotten quickly.
In conclusion, I believe schools and families should work together. Schools can provide knowledge and healthy environments, while families can build good habits at home every day. When both sides share this responsibility, young people are more likely to grow up healthy and happy. When children see adults enjoying healthy food and exercise, they are more likely to follow that example for life.

12:00
Part 1 — Social interaction (2 chủ đề: Health & daily routine; Hometown & community)
- Do you think you have a healthy lifestyle? Why or why not?
- What do you usually do to keep fit?
- How many hours do you usually sleep at night? Is it enough?
- What is your hometown like? Is it a good place to live a healthy life?
- Do people in your community help each other? Can you give an example?
- What would you like to change about your neighbourhood to make it healthier?
Câu trả lời mẫu band B1: Sample answers (band B1, song ngữ): I try to live healthily: I walk to work, eat vegetables every day, and sleep about seven hours a night. / Tôi cố gắng sống lành mạnh: tôi đi bộ đi làm, ăn rau mỗi ngày và ngủ khoảng 7 tiếng mỗi đêm. — My hometown is a small, friendly town with a park and a morning market, so it is easy to walk and buy fresh food.
- Situation: Many people in your neighbourhood throw rubbish in the park, and the park is becoming dirty and unhealthy. The local council asks for ideas. Here are three solutions: (1) Organise a monthly community clean-up day. (2) Put fines on people who litter. (3) Run an awareness campaign in schools and on posters. Which solution do you think is the best? Why? Why are the other solutions less suitable?
Câu trả lời mẫu band B1: Sample answer (band B1, song ngữ): I think organising a monthly community clean-up day is the best solution because it brings people together and makes them feel responsible for their park. Fines may stop some people, but they are hard to enforce and do not change attitudes. An awareness campaign is useful, but posters alone will not clean the park. A clean-up day is practical, fun, and teaches children to protect the environment.
- Topic: Healthy lifestyle. Mind map: Exercise (walking, sports, morning exercise) — Food (home cooking, vegetables, less sugar) — Sleep (8 hours, no phones before bed) — Mental health (talking with family, relaxing) — Community (walking groups, community gardens). Talk about this topic, then answer: Which part of a healthy lifestyle is the most difficult for young people today? Why? What can schools do to help students live more healthily?
Câu trả lời mẫu band B1: Sample answer (band B1, song ngữ): A healthy lifestyle has several parts. First, regular exercise, like walking or playing sports, keeps the body strong. Second, home cooking with vegetables and less sugar helps control weight. Third, enough sleep helps students concentrate.
